Prime Time

Bay Area - 7 Voices - Much Music

Prime Time is an award-winning jazz-centered contemporary a cappella group from the California Bay Area which specializes in heartfelt singing, exquisite musicianship, and an approachable, honest performance style. Separately, the singers have decades of experience spanning multiple styles and cultures. Together, we have one goal - to let the music shine in and through us, as we reach out to touch, inspire, and entertain everyone who hears us.

John Rae-Grant - Bass

Surprisingly, John got his start in harmony singing with a high school rock band specializing in Bee Gees tunes (yes, falsetto).  At Yale University, he was director of The Society of Orpheus and Bacchus, and bass section leader of The Whiffenpoofs of 1986.

John’s a cappella addiction reached its most virulent state with the discovery of barbershop singing.  John sang with Studio One - Evergreen District Champs, and Finale – International Semi-Finalists.  He also served as Music Vice President and bass section leader of the Voices in Harmony chorus, leading that group to place third in the world in 2008.

John's groups have performed around the world, with highlights including co-starring with The Real Group at the Vaasa Choral Festival in Finland, singing a tribute to Mary Martin on Broadway, and headlining the Pan-Pacific convention in New Zealand.

When not singing, John enjoys working as Lead Product Manager for Gmail at Google, watching his teenage son and daughter become amazing people, and sharing life in the Santa Cruz mountains with his awesome wife Laura.
